Top 08 parameters for Midjourney mastery - part 3/3

Congratulations for making it this far!

Hello, fantastic people! You made it! The final part to the Midjourney mastery 3-part series! In case you want to see the previous 2 parts, you can check them by going to the featured posts here.

Without further ado, let's go!

--iw for image weight (from 0 to 2)

This one is one of the most important, and very important when it comes to style consistency. Also, you first need to have an original image to start with, and here's how you do it: on any image online (for example, on midjourney itself), right-click on it and copy the image address. Like this:

Once that's done, your prompt will start with you pasting the address and end with --iw and a value from 0 to 2. Let's say, for example, that I want to take the image above and change the direction she is looking. The original prompt was:

a slightly surprised beautiful woman studying, zoom on her face

Now, let's take the image address and create this prompt:

The results:

To be honest with you, none of those are quite what I expected. #4 gets close, but it's still not quite it. However, I don't think I should change my prompt, just run it again. When cases like this emerge, you are best served by…

--repeat (1 to 40, or 1 to 4 on the $10 plan)

Let's make the same prompt from before repeat as many times as we can (in this case, 4). Bear in mind, though, that it will cost you 4x as well.

From my 16 generations, the only one I felt was more or less like what I had in mind was:

Although, to be honest, I wanted her to be looking the other side, lol.

--seed for consistency (again)

Ok, so --iw helps when you want to maximize consistency of a character/scene, but what about when you want to more or less follow the same style? That's where --seed comes to the rescue!

First, you need to react to your reply with a ✉️. Like this:

You will then receive a private message with this:

Now, let's see what happens when we force the seed to be the same and repeat the prompt:

a slightly surprised beautiful woman studying, looking to the right, zoom on her face --seed 249552728

Notice how, like this, what we keep track of is the overall style, not the exact woman.

And that's it! Of course, there's much more to the tool, but with these 3 editions you have more than enough to go out and make very solid generations. Other topics we might be covering in the future:

  • Perspectives (bird's eye view)

  • Cameras (Nikon D850)

  • Color paletter (duotone)

  • Lightning (daylight, dusk, moody, etc)

  • Compositions (rule of thirds)

  • Using the gallery

  • Famous artists/artworks styles
